Agnes Obel returns with the much-anticipated The Meaning of Flowers, following the acclaimed Myopia from 2020. Originally from Denmark and now based in Berlin, she wrote, arranged, recorded and produced the album entirely in her Berlin studio.
Across 12 atmospheric, genre-spanning tracks, The Meaning of Flowers captures a time of deep personal and creative transformation. Inspired by the birth of her first child, Obel explores new beginnings, connection and metamorphosis, and the ways new life reshapes body, mind and our relationship with the world.
The album also draws from a rich range of influences, from the poetry of Enheduanna and the ideas of Hannah Arendt and Emanuele Coccia to the Danish pop scene of the 1980s and ’90s.
